April Skins Games

I’m leaving this morning for the summer, but the skins games are scheduled to continue through the month of April. The team pairing emails come out Sunday and Thursday afternoons, and they will go to Phil and Jose Torres so they can have your bags ready on the carts. It would be really good if everyone would sign up on the calendar when you want to play, and then show up and play when you sign up on the calendar. It will make things run much smoother on game days.

Have fun, and I’ll see you all next winter.

Duane.

Modified Tees for Friday’s Skins Game

As I mentioned Monday, we’re going to try something different for this Friday’s skins game. I’ve come up with “combo” tee sets to replace the normal gold, white, and blue sets we normally play. The goal is to make all the par 5s play like real par 5s, so that no one can reach #10 or #14 with a drive and 7 iron. And #5 won’t be longer than #10 from the golds or #14 from the blues. These combinations result in total yardage changes of less than 10 yards, which means we can post scores as if we played the normal rated tees. And you will take your handicap strokes on the same holes you normally do, where they fall on the scorecard. So here are the changes we’ll use Friday:

  • Gold tees: Move back to the whites on 6, 10, and 14; move up to the reds on 1, 5, and 18. Total yardage reduced by 9 yards.
  • White tees: Move back to the blues on 10* and 14; move up to the golds on 5 and 18. Total yardage reduced by 5 yards.
  • Blue tees: Move back to the blacks on 7 and 14; move up to the whites on 5 and 18. Total yardage reduced by 2 yards.

I will prepare a handout for each team to use Friday, detailing these changes. We’ll try this Friday and discuss it after the round to get feedback.

*Note: If the blue tees on #10 are back by the road as they have been lately, white tee players will use the front of the blue tee box, near the first path to the restrooms. Blue tee players will play from the tee markers.

New Website Handicap Features

When you click the My Handicap button on the main menu bar, you will see the My Handicap tab you’ve had since December, plus a new Handicaps and Scores tab.

My Handicap Tab

You should be familiar with this tab, where you post scores, view your recent scores, and find your handicap index and course handicap. What is new here is that we’ve added El Tigre League Handicaps for all the tees, in addition to your standard Course Handicaps. Because we allow players to compete from different tees in our leagues, handicaps must be adjusted for those who play from “nonstandard” tees (tees other than white for men and red for women). For an explanation of why and how this is done, please read Handicap Adjustments for El Tigre League Play.

Handicaps and Scores Tab

Three new capabilities here:

  • View a player handicap, where you can view recent scores and handicap information for any player, just like you see for yourself on the My Handicap tab.
  • Handicap list, where you can see a list of all men or women players’ course and league handicaps.
  • Day scores on, where you can see a list of scores posted on any given date.

Skins Game Calendar Changes

Because some of you sign up for our skins games well in advance, I want to inform you of two changes to the schedule:

February 16: No skins game, due to the Gringo Classic

March 2: We WILL have a skins game on Friday, March 2nd.

New Handicap System

In the email I sent out yesterday, I told you I was attaching a file Gerard created with an explanation of all the terms and calculations on the handicap app’s scores listing. I wasn’t able to attach the file (a MailChimp limitation), and I forgot to delete that promise. Oops. So here it is below. Click on the image to enlarge it.
Also, I forgot to mention something else in the email. All the scores Phil entered will show as being from the white tees, because of the way he recorded scores in his spreadsheet. But if you turned in a score from the blues or golds, Phil adjusted the score to a white-tee equivalent in his spreadsheet. Bottom line, it should work out okay.
