2024 Gringo Classic

Hola fellow golfers

The 2024 Gringo Classic is fast approaching with a little over a month away.

Our registration has been somewhat slow as usual we are currently at approx 56 total golfers.

Our goal is to get to 2 teams of 40.

Ross McDonald team Canada captain has gone out and got some great sponsorship for this year’s event specifically for the draft party on Monday the 26th.

Vallarta Beer Gardens (old chasers) will be hosting the event with beer and food but also has kicked in a few great prizes.

One of which is 2 tickets for the Mexican Open at Vidanta.

As this event will be prior to the Gringo Classic we have decided to use this great prize as an incentive to get yourself registered and paid.

We will make a draw on Friday Feb 9 after skins for this great prize from all registered and paid players so make sure you not only register on our calendar but stop into the golf shop and pay your 600 pesos.

Best Regards

Alan

Gimme putt rule

Over the past few weeks, there has been some controversy and discussion about gimme putts.
Until now, gimme putts are allowed if putt length is within the leather grip.
On Monday after the game, we had a discussion about gimme putts. We have examined some proposals for a new rule.
After discussion we decide to adopt a new rule for gimme.

All putts for a score counting on the card must be holed.
If a putt could possibly count for a skins or improve team score, it must be done.

We are all aware that we are team-mates in the foursome, but the honesty and fairness for all must prevail.
It is useful to remember that in the PGA and RCGA rules, there is no gimme.
We are not the only group having discussion over gimme. Take a look at this article from PGA website.

2024 Gringo Classic – Update

We are just over 2 months away from the 2024 Gringo Classic.

After some recent feed back regarding the format and the pricing for the gringo the following revisions have been made.

The price for the entry fee now will be 600 pesos which will cover a few beers and the burger and tip. (No tee gifts will be provided this year). There will be a small item given to the players of the winning team.

Anyone who has already paid we will refund the money back to you at the tournament so that it doesn’t mess with the pro shop desk.

They will have a list of who paid what.

We are also going to try and host a draft night location TBD on Monday the 26th after skins.

The other thing that came up from numerous people is the format. We will try and make it as close to a Canada vs International as best that can be. The obvious challenge is not only getting enough international players but getting the handicaps as close as possible.

It will be left up to the captains to try and make the matches as close as possible.

2024 Gringo Classic

The Gringo 2024 is fast approaching and registration is now open.

As mentioned before, the dates are Feb 27/28.

As it has been for the last few years we will be doing a shot gun start at 9:00 am on the 27th and tee times on the 28th.

A burger and beer will be provided after round 1 and then an optional Horse race will be at 3 pm on the 27th.

I’m happy to announce that this year’s captains will be Michel St. Laurent and Ross McDonald.

Registration will be open til Feb 15 at which time the captains will then do a draft and create the teams as equally as possible.

Again as mentioned there will be 2 divisions a white tee division and a gold tee division for those who qualify under the gold tee mens club rules. All matches will be within the same division.

The cost for this year’s event which will include the burger and beer on the first day along with some exciting tee gifts is 1500 pesos for members Guests or non members are 5500 pesos which also covers the 2 rounds of golf.

Please pay these fees when registering at the golf shop.

Also please go on “My Calendar” on leagues website, select “Leagues” at the page top and “Save leagues in my calendar” at the bottom. Then go back to “My Calendar” tab , select both days and click on “Save month” to sign in.

Please feel free too contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.

Maximum players

On request of El Tigre Golf Club, the leagues have agreed to limit the number of players for each event. The maximum number of players per event set by the Club is as follows:
Skins Game: 24
Women League:40
Men League:56
Couples Golf:52

Maximum players and registered players on calendar
Now you will see numbers below each checkbox on your Leagues’ calendar: number of players registered and maximum players. For example, there are 45 men registered out of a maximum of 56 for the Men League on Wednesday 29th.

If you click the checkbox and save the change, you’ll now see 46 players registered out of 56.

Number of registered players increase and decrease as players sign in or sign out and save their change.
Don’t forget to save your changes.

Maximum players reached
When the maximum number of players has been reached and you have not registered, the checkbox is grayed out and you cannot register for the event. See example below for 8th. You can go back later and watch if there is a spot available.
If the checkbox is active, you have already registered. Nothing to do if you still want to play. See example below for 15th. But, if you do not want to play, you should sign out and give another player the chance to register.

Check your calendar
Check your calendar often to make sure it reflects your playing intentions. This is now more important with a maximum players per event. As soon as you know you will not be playing when you have signed in, sign out as soon as possible to give another player a chance to sign in.

As usual, you can sign in or sign out until the day before each event at 3:00 PM (2:00 PM for Women League).
