2026 Gringo Classic

Hola El Tigre Members.

The time is upon us once again for the planning and organizing of the 2026 Gringo Classic.

It seems like yesterday, however it was a short 10 years ago when a group of us after a round of golf came up with this crazy idea to start a Canada vs USA Ryder cup style event, fast forward 10 years and the final planning stages are being done for the upcoming event being held February 24,25 2026.

Over the years there has been its fair share of changes but the concept has stayed the same, a match play event between Team Canada vs Team International.

As has become a tradition we will start our event with a draft night on Monday Feb 23, where the captains Markus Gmelin and Jeff Gayle representing Team International, and Don Marshall along with Ken Wither representing Canada will create the pairings for the 2 day event. This event with be hosted once again at Vallarta beer gardens. Beer and appy’s will be provided.

Day 1 will be a 4 ball event with a shot gun start at 9 am followed immediately after with a putting contest at the putting green where a few beers will be provided. Cash prizes for the top 3 finishers.

Day 2 will be individual matches again with a shot gun 9 am start followed by a provided lunch and couple of beers provided as well as the presentation to the winning team.

The registration fee is 1,500 pesos which covers the draft night food and beer, the putting contest entry fee and provided beer, the 2nd day lunch and beer, KP prizes both days, as well as some very impressive tee gifts.

To register please see Ross McDonald, Francis Bast, or myself. Act fast as spots are filling up, we are restricted to 72 participants (36 per team). Registration is open to all members, as well as guests of members. Registration closes Feb 10, 2026.

On behalf of the organizers of this event we would like to wish all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Kindest Regards

Alan Bayliss

Men’s Mixer – Wednesday, December 24th, 2025

Hola El Tigre Golfers,

This Wednesday will be playing a four-person best ball team game where teams will only need to count three best ball net scores for all holes with “red” pins, two best ball net scores for holes with “white” pins, and only one best ball net scores for holes with “blue” pins. Please provide both gross and net scores for all players for your team along with team summary scores for the front 9, the back 9 and the overall 18-hole score. Also, please enter your scores in the Golf Genius software for yourself and your golf partner on the screen for each hole. In addition to keeping your scores on-line, Golf Genius will allow you to view the live leaderboard online anytime during the round to see how well your team is doing compared to the rest of the field.

As previously announced, effective with the start of the 2025/2026 season, Steve will provide all players with two separate reports the day before our weekly golf event. In addition to receiving the updated pairing report that Steve has always provided all players, you will also receive an additional document which provides an alphabetical listing of all players signed up to play that will include both their handicap and the set of tees that the golf genius system expects they will be playing from. Please review this information to make sure it is correct, and if there any issues please notify the money collectors so that we can correct the information in the golf genius software, before you tee off on Wednesday. We are working hard to make sure that the information displayed in the golf genius software is 100% consistent with the information that you enter in your scoring summary sheets.

It is highly recommended that all players arrive no later than 8:30 AM in order to complete their practice warm up and be ready to tee off by 8:50 AM.

Remember to circle any player in your group that had a natural birdie on any of the Par 3 holes.

Lastly, please remember to rake out any bunkers you may have entered and repair all divots.

Good luck to all golfers!

Markus
